국립극장 전속 단체 국립무용단(예술감독 손인영)은 핀란드 안무가 테로 사리넨(Tero Saarinen)과 함께 만들어낸 강렬한 우리 춤의 소용돌이 ‘회오리(VORTEX)’를 6월 24일(금)부터 26일(일)까지 국립극장 해오름극장에서 공연한다. 전통춤을 기반으로 하는 국립무용단이 2014년 초연한 작품으로, 1962년 창단 이후 52년 만에 처음 시도하는 해외 안무가와 협업이라는 점에서 화제를 모았다.

회오리의 안무는 핀란드를 대표하는 안무가 테로 사리넨이 맡았으며 초연 무대는 한국 전통춤의 원형에서 파생된 이국적이면서도 깊이 있는 움직임으로 평단과 관객의 호평을 받았다. 이후 세 차례의 국내 공연과 2015년 프랑스 칸 댄스 페스티벌, 2019년 일본 가나가와예술극장 초청공연을 거치며 명실상부 국립무용단의 대표 레퍼토리로 자리매김했다.

칸 댄스 페스티벌 예술 감독으로 부임해 자신의 첫 축제 개막작으로 회오리를 선택했던 브리지트 르페브르(Brigitte Lefèvre)는 “전통을 중시하면서도 다른 것을 받아들이며 재능을 발전시켜 나가는 국립무용단의 시도 자체가 예술적”, “한국의 전통춤이지만 현대성을 바라보는 ‘움직이는 전통’을 담은 작품”이라며 극찬했다. 올 9월 국립무용단의 그간 움츠러들었던 해외 공연 재개도 회오리가 알린다. 올 2월 개관한 핀란드 헬싱키 댄스 하우스(Dance House Helsinki)의 첫 해외 초청작으로 선정돼 핀란드 관객을 만난다.

문화와 장르를 초월한 협업으로 탄생한 회오리의 성공은 국립무용단과 테로 사리넨 모두 ‘과거로부터 새로운 것을 만들어낸다’는 공통분모를 지녔기 때문에 가능했다. 발레뿐 아니라 동유럽을 광범위하게 누비며 현대 무용까지 섭렵하고, ‘자연주의’라는 자신만의 춤 철학을 구축해 온 안무가는 국립무용단과 협업하며 독특한 호흡과 선, 낮은 무게중심이 주는 매력에 감탄했다. 하늘을 지향하고 각을 이루는 성향이 짙은 서양 춤에 비해 테로 사리넨의 움직임은 땅을 지향하는 성향을 지녀 국립무용단의 움직임과 공통점이 있다. 근원적이고 본질적인 자연스러움을 추구하는 안무가는 깊은 호흡으로 발을 디디는 무용수와 빠르게 교감하며 작품을 완성했다.

회오리는 춤과 함께 무대·조명·의상·음악까지 모든 요소가 결합해 거대한 회오리를 일으키는 작품이다. 간결한 검은색과 대조를 이루는 노란색 댄스플로어 위로 에리카 투루넨(Erika Turunen)의 모노톤(monotone) 의상과 미키 쿤투(Mikki Kunttu)의 신비로운 조명이 더해진 무대는 잔잔하게 시작해 점차 강렬하게 회오리의 이미지를 그려낸다. 전통 음악을 소재로 독특한 구조 쌓기를 통해 자신만의 음악 세계를 탁월하게 녹여내는 장영규가 완성한 음악은 가야금(박순아)·피리(나원일)·소리(이승희)·해금(천지윤)의 라이브 연주로 작품에 생동감을 더한다.

총 3장으로 구성된 회오리는 ‘블랙’과 ‘화이트’ 그리고 두 커플의 매개자인 ‘샤먼’ 등 총 5명의 주역이 에너지의 흐름을 이끈다. 이번 공연의 샤먼 역할에는 박기환·송설이 더블 캐스팅됐다. 여자 주역에는 더블 캐스팅된 김미애·송지영과 박혜지가, 남자 주역에는 황용천과 이석준이 오르며, 새롭게 합류한 이태웅·이도윤을 비롯한 총 21명의 무용수가 출연한다.

한편 국립무용단은 공연에 앞서 ‘오픈 클래스’를 6월 9일(목) 오후 7시 30분 국립무용단 연습실에서 개최한다. 회오리의 주요 장면 소개, 주요 출연진 및 해외 제작진과 화상 대화에 이어 직접 춤을 배워보는 시간 등으로 꾸며져 작품을 더 깊이 이해할 수 있는 시간을 마련한다.

(together with its affiliates, “Clearlake”), today announced completion of the ownership transfer of Chelsea Football Club (“Chelsea FC” or “the Club”). The consortium also includes Hansjörg Wyss, founder of the Wyss Foundation, and Mark Walter, co-founder and CEO of Guggenheim Capital. Walter and Boehly are owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Sparks. The transaction has received all necessary approvals from The Government of the United Kingdom, The Premier League, and other authorities.

Under the terms of the agreement, Boehly and Clearlake will share joint control and equal governance of the Club. Boehly will serve as Chairman of the holding company.

Boehly and Clearlake are committed to investing in key areas that will extend and enhance Chelsea’s competitiveness, including the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge, further investment in the Academy, the Women’s Team, and Kingsmeadow stadium. The owners will also continue the important work of the Chelsea Foundation.
