마스터카드는 최동천 마스터카드 코리아·홍콩·마카오·타이완 총괄대표를 동북아시아(Northeast Asia) 대표로 선임한다고 27일 밝혔다.

마스터카드는 가장 역동적이며 중요한 시장 중 한 곳인 동북아시아 지역의 고객사에 차별화된 가치를 제공하고 지속적인 성장을 이루기 위해 한국·홍콩·마카오·타이완 시장에서 탁월한 역량과 성과를 보여준 최동천 대표에게 새로운 리더십을 맡긴다고 설명했다.

2003년 마스터카드에 합류한 최동천 대표는 2008년부터 마스터카드 코리아 대표직을 수행했으며, 2017년부터 한국·홍콩·마카오·타이완 시장을 책임지는 총괄대표를 역임했다. 그는 마스터카드에 합류하기 전 글로벌 경영컨설팅사 맥킨지앤컴퍼니(McKinsey and Company)에서 8년간 일하며 수많은 금융기관과 기업에 경영 자문을 제공했으며, 글로벌 투자은행인 살로몬스미스바니(Salomon Smith Barney)의 홍콩지사에서 IB 부문을 담당하기도 했다.

한편 최동천 대표는 1994년 고려대학교를 졸업했으며, 2000년 미국 노스웨스턴대학교 켈로그경영대학원(Kellogg School Of Management)에서 경영학 석사(MBA) 학위를 취득했다.
